One of the most important part of looking and feeling good is your personal hygiene. Keeping clean, fresh and fragrant is something you owe, not only to yourself, but to those you come in contact with. It is the very basis of good grooming with maintaining personal hygiene both for men and women.
Proper cleanliness not only extends to your body and hair, but also to your clothes and underclothes. This is more so in summer, when you would need two changes in the day.
Your teeth, nails and feet must be keep clean and look well- care for. Knowing that you have attended to every part of your body imparts a feeling of self-confidence that is imperative to looking and feeling your best.

Even Your Best Friend May Not Tell You
An unpleasant body odor is something that you are not aware of and even your best friend embarrass to tell you.
Although sweating is actually the body’s natural way of cooling itself, it can present a problem. It is the decomposition of bacteria in sweat that cause an unpleasant body odor. This begins to occur about six hours after you sweat.

The skin contains sweat glands of two kinds.
1)Eccrine sweat gland:
- The eccrine glands are present all over the body.
- And specially on palm of hand, and sole of the feet.
2) Apocrine sweat gland:
- The apocrine glands are in the under arm and pubic regions.
- They excrete sweat, which mixes with surface bacteria and decomposes, creating odor and even stained clothing.
The use of anti-perspirants and deodorants can help to some extent. Most deodorants are also anti-perspirants. Choose a mild deodorant, as strong anti-perspirants can cause skin irritations and sensitive reactions. Try them out on a small area on the inner arm, it will help to maintain personal hygiene.
If the skin tingles, or burns for longer than a minute, they should not be use. Perspirants is a natural process and is not meant to blocked. The body also gets rid of waste materials through sweat. However, talcum powder, colognes, deodorants do help to maintain freshness for sometime.

Add Beauty To Your Bath
A daily bath is absolutely necessary for personal hygiene. In fact, bath can be of great value to both health and beauty. Along with dirt and grime, sweat and sweat deposits settle on the surface of the skin and must be removed daily.
A bath also helps to refresh and invigorate and yet, relieves tension and removes fatigue. The daily bath can use to replace body oils and keep the skin soft and smooth.
Apart from soap or body shampoos, you should have at hand a long-handle brush, a nail brush, a rough texture wash cloth, a sponge, a pumice stone, a pre-bath preparation for dry skin, an aromatic oil, cologne, talcum powder or deodorant.
The water that runs through our taps contain high chlorine. This, along with soap, robs the skin of its natural oils. If you have a dry skin, or when humidity is low, massage a pre-bath cream into the skin.
During your bath, pay particular attention to the armpits, genital areas and feet, where stale sweat tends to accumulate. Use the long-handled body brush for your back.
Sponges are ideal for soaping the skin, while the wash cloth can use to scrub the body. This helps to remove dead cells and also stimulates circulation. Use the pumice stone on the rough skin on your heels, soles and elbows. Make sure to rinse your brushes and wash cloths thoroughly afterwards.
Add an aromatic oil to your bath water. A few drops will do. During summer, cologne added to the last few mugs of water leaves your body refreshed and fragrant. Talcum powder also helps sweat to evaporate. Use your cologne or deodorants soon after your bath, while the skin is still damp.

During the ancient times much value was added to the cosmetic and therapeutic benefits of baths. In ancient India, herbalized oils and extracts were added to the bath water to prevent skin ailments and to leave the skin clean and fragrant.
Sandalwood oil used since the Vedic times, while the Mughal Queens were added rose petals, jasmine, oil of roses, to beautify and perfume themselves.
In ancient India, many pre-bath rituals were followed that exist even today. Gram flour, or wheat husk was mixed into a paste with turmeric and the cream of milk, to be rubbed on the body before bathing. It not only cleansed the skin, but kept it soft and bright. Neem leaves were boiled in water, which was used for bathing, to prevent rashes and skin infections.

Replacing Natural Body Oils
- During the ancient times, women in India massage their bodies with the oil of sesame seeds, which have many protective properties, including protection from sun-damage. This practice exists till today.
- For dry skin and during the winter months, apply a body lotion after your bath. Sandalwood oil and sesame oil add to many body moisturizers, to make soft skin and protect it from further moisture loss.
- After bath apply body lotion, it leaves the body soft, moist and fragrant. It also restores the acid-alkaline balance that may be upset by chlorinated water and soap and water washing.
- Apply body lotions soon after your bath, while the skin is still damp.
